Nagpur: A day after Nagpur Today exposed the alleged syndicate between coaching institutes and colleges providing safe havens for students to skip college classes, the Deputy Director of Education (DDE) has taken cognizance of the matter and assured effective inspection in this connection.
Speaking to Nagpur Today, Ullas Narad, DDE, specifically clarified that the 75% attendance requirement for appearing in any Maharashtra State Board Exams is compulsory. However, the scenario of students skipping college classes for coaching centers is a sad reality in the country.
“We’re yet to receive any complaints regarding ‘no classes’ being held in the colleges, thus we’ve not taken any action against any establishments. However, the alleged collaboration between colleges and coaching centers has become a harsh reality in Nagpur, and across the country as well!” he said.
“For any Maharashtra State Board affiliated institutions, 75% attendance is compulsory. As the online admission for 11th is under process, we are yet to initiate inspection drives. However, based on the report published by Nagpur Today, we will start the inspection process soon. If any colleges are found violating these norms, we will initiate action to shut those institutions,” the DDE assured, adding that similar action was also taken in the past.
At a time, when the coaching centers are ruling the roost in post 10th academics, the schools are rendered with empty classrooms. When humorously asked if schools and colleges should be closed after 10th grade, and only coaching institutes should be allowed to provide college degrees to students, DDE Narad expressed, “For socialization, schools are an essential aspect for students to grow and learn new things. No coaching class can replace the schools, and thus schools and colleges are a must for students in order to ensure their overall development.”
