Nagpur: The traders’ body in the city — Nag Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce (NVCC) — submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, requesting them to construct truck terminals around Nagpur city as soon as possible.
Chamber President Ashwin Mehadia demanded through the memorandum that at present, due to rapid development of logistics hub in Nagpur city and increasing infrastructure, transportation has also increased a lot, but for parking of these transport trucks inside Nagpur city and due to lack of fixed place outside, transporters and truck drivers are facing a lot of problems.
“When the Development Plan of NMRDA was prepared, space was also decided for truck terminals for parking trucks in all four directions of Nagpur city. Reports have also been sent several times by the Chamber for the construction of truck terminals, but no action is being taken by the administration. Along with the transporters, the general public is also facing many problems,” Mehadia said.
Chamber’s Vice President Swapnil Ahirkar said that due to non-availability of fixed space for parking trucks outside Nagpur city, trucks are parked on the side of the roads. Due to which the transport system of the city is also deteriorating and the possibilities of road accidents have also increased a lot. Due to non-availability of toilet facilities for truck drivers, they also spread filth in the open on the side of the road.
Chamber Secretary Ramavatar Totla said that keeping in view the above problems and the request of the NVCC, the administration should make arrangements to start construction of truck terminals in all the four directions of Nagpur city as soon as possible so that people coming from outside Nagpur will not face parking problem of these trucks and the transport system in the city will be smooth and there will be reduction in road accidents due to parking of these trucks on roads.
