Nagpur: A total of 31 persons were injured in Nagpur during kite flying on Monday during the celebration of ‘Makar Sankranti’. The majority of these injuries were caused by manja. Simultaneously, the Nagpur police have escalated its crackdown on nylon manja, registering 15 FIRs on Monday.
Special teams of police stations conducted raids at various locations and arrested youths purchasing nylon manja from sellers. Cases have been registered against all the persons involved under the Environment Protection Act. This month, a total of 68 FIRs against 86 accused persons have been registered by the city police against nylon manja, confiscating banned manja worth Rs 86 lakh.

In Vijaya Nagar, Kalamna police arrested Omeshwar Ram Ambadare (20), a resident of Gulmohar Nagar, for possession of nylon manja. In Bezonbagh area, Jaripatka Police detained Akhilesh Madan Gondane (27) with two reels of nylon manja. Ashu Vilas Shende (24) of Gautam Nagar, Mekosabagh, was caught with a nylon manja reel. Wadi Police arrested Ankush Shankarrao Thakre (27) of Tekdi, Wadi, along with Mahesh Ramchandra Neware (37) of Shahu Layout, Rohit Atar Ramteke (19), and Praful Ashok Gadalinge (29) of Adarsh Nagar, Ramabai Chowk, Ambedkar Nagar, for using nylon manja.
Kharendra Kantode (19) and Faizan Rashid Sheikh (19) were arrested with nylon manja reel purchased for personal use. In Vasant Nagar, Ajni police arrested Sachin Shalikram Shende (35) with five reels of nylon manja. Vikram Amritrao Dodke (23) of Vitthal Nagar, who was selling nylon manja in Bajrang Nagar area, was caught with two reels. A reel of nylon manja was discovered with Rohit Ramprasad Yadav (24) of Sawarbandhe Layout, Pipla Road.
Meanwhile, in Vasant Nagar, Chetan Chhaganlal Lilhare(19) and Yagnesh Jayant Savarkar (22), residents of Babulkheda, were found with three reels of nylon manja. MIDC police detained Manish Raghunandan Pancheshwar (23) with three reels in the Ekatmata Nagar area. In Bajrang Nagar area, Kapil Nagar police apprehended Nehal Devparan Sahare (28) of Samta Nagar with a reel. Rana Pratap Nagar police caught Anand Ramesh Patil (30) with six chakris of nylon manja in Azad Hind Nagar.
In Jambudip Nagar, Hudkeshwar police arrested Pradeep Hariprasad Yadav (26) with a reel of nylon manja. The Tehsil police conducted a raid at Bengali Panja area and apprehended Bhushan Rajendra Guhikar (21) of Timki, Sandeep alias Sonu Bapu Amre (26) of Mehedibag, and Ajay Satish Nimje (19) of Tandapeth for selling banned nylon manja. Seven reels of nylon manja were confiscated during the operation. The police have seized goods worth more than Rs 30,000.
