In order to stop the theft of Octroi happening through rail route, the NMC taking a new step has sent a proposal to the Railway officials requesting to allow permission to set up an Octroi post on the railway platform. Till now there is no response from the Railways towards the proposal. On Wednesday gold was seized from the Vidarbha Express which has being linked with Hawala. Although there are several case like this but are hardly are intercepted. There is an Octroi post outside the Railway Station but Octroi thefts continuously happen. On getting space on the Railway platform, 3% as rent will be given apart from commission. Ravindra Kumbhare of NMC said that since the year 1960, an Octroi post is functional on the Mumbai Railway station. On the platform itself baggage is scanned and if anyone is concealing anything, it can be checked and Octroi can be recovered.
