Nagpur: Subhash Kumar Krushnamohan Shahu (53), residing in Plot No. 102, Rukmini Krishna Apartment, Ganeshpeth, has become the latest casualty of online fraud, losing a staggering Rs 23 lakh to scammers who promised lucrative returns through share market investments.

The ordeal began when Shahu received a phone call from an unknown individual on January 15. Employing persuasive tactics, the fraudster convinced Shahu to invest in the share market, promising to double his investment.

Succumbing to the caller’s convincing pitch, Shahu joined a WhatsApp group named ‘C9 Blackrock Stock Pull Up’ and invested the aforementioned amount in various schemes. The fraudsters maintained the illusion of profits within the group until March 6.

However, when Shahu attempted to withdraw his earnings, the customer care representatives advised him to wait for even greater returns. As Shahu persisted in his efforts to access his profits, the fraudsters ceased responding to his calls. Following the ordeal, Shahu reported the incident to the police. Subsequently, the police registered a case under Sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the IPC, along with Sections 66 (d) of the IT Act.”
