One dies as avalanche strikes ski resort in Kashmir

 

One can never under-estimate the forces of nature. Any one of the natural elements life water, snow, fire can become fatal.

In a similar incident, the local police sources said that a 28-year-old person was killed when an avalanche struck the peripheral area of the famous Ski Resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir.

The deceased is identified as Bashir Ahmad Bakshi, a resident of Tangmarg. The victim had got trapped in the avalanche in the snow-bound area in the afternoon hours of February 11, 2015, claimed the cops.

Many rescue parties were pressed into service that swung into action immediately after the avalanche struck the area and managed to recover Bakshi’s body. Bakshi is said to be working as a skiing guide.

According to police sources, though there is no report of any person going missing so far after the avalanche, the rescue operation are still continuing as a precautionary measure.

The famous Ski Resort of Gulmarg is said to be 55 kms from Shrinagar. The Ski Resort is also the star attraction for tourists especially skiers from abroad and experienced a fresh spell of snowfall on February 8, 2015.
