Speaking of the Bhosle family, the former royal family of Nagpur, he said it was connected with the RSS from the time of the Sangh’s founder K B Hedgewar. While Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj founded ‘Swarajya’ (sovereign state) and southern India was freed of atrocities during his time, East and North India were freed from atrocities under the rule of the Nagpur Bhosle family, he said.

“In the event of heated arguments, the Nagpurkar Bhoslas wisely retreated before the Peshwas and the conflict was avoided. Hindustan would never have gone to slavery if the same understanding had been shown by citing such history,” Bhagwat asserted.

“South India became free during the lifetime of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, while East India became free from foreign countries during the reign of Nagpukar Bhosles. Nagpurkar Bhosle and the Peshwas went their separate ways to Bihar in the event of the liberation of India. Meanwhile, both of them came face to face and a dispute arose as to who would go ahead and who would capture Bihar. Both parties were brave. At this time that the Bhoslas of Nagpur took the initiative and gave way to the Peshwas to invade Bihar without giving scope to the dispute. The relationship between the Bhosle Rajgharana and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has been strengthened solely and exclusively by patriotic-national interest. We never had the concept of king as ruler, but the concept of king as public servant has remained,” the RSS chief said.

Many kings directly or indirectly supported the revolutionaries during the war of independence. Because of that, even though there is no longer a royal family, Bhagwat said.

The function was held at the Senior Bhonsla Palace in Mahal on Tuesday. Shrimant Raje Raghuji Maharaj Bhosle (fifth) and Shrimant Raje Mudhoji Bhosle were seated on the dais.

Bhagwat further said, “Society functions on the basis of qualities and a nation becomes great on the basis of the qualities of society… You will also find good leaders in those countries that are not in good condition. It means that all these factors are subsidiary. The main thing is quality and solidarity in society.”

Sarang Dhok conducted the programme while vote of thanks was proposed by Kishan Sharma.
