Nagpur: Targeting the senior cadre of BJP, Congress leaders told workers and office- bearers that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders made tall claims before Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and misguided the people. They even marketed the incomplete projects to garner votes but now its time for Congress to reveal the hollow promises of BJP, shot Congress leaders. They encouraged the party workers to visit villages and hamlets to bring out the truth behind BJP’s claims and to assure them that Congress alone is their true friend.
The newly appointed president of District Congress Committee, Rajendra Mulak, took charge on Sunday in presence of senior leaders at Congress office. He was later felicitated at workers meet held at Vasantrao Deshpande Hall.
Also present on the occasion were AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik, former minister Vilas Muttemwar, Nitin Raut, Anees Ahmad, Subodh Mohite, observer MLA Vijay Wadettiwar, Nana Gawande, former district president Sunita Gawande and city Congress president Vikas Thakre and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Mulak said that former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi did exceptional work to strengthen the panchayat raj system. He said current prime minister, on the other hand, is planning to scrap the ministry of panchayat raj. Mulak said huge cuts have been made in the funding to this ministry and the government has failed miserably to tackle the issues of farmers, workers and labourers. “Hence, the Congress workers must rush to the aid of common people. No individual is above the party. Don’t promote individualism and try to bring deserters,” said Mulak.
MLA Wadettiwar said 44 per cent farmers have still not gotten loan. “The current government is against farmers,” shot Wadettiwar. He said unless senior leaders take proper care of workers, party cannot survive. Wadettiwar expressed confidence that with the strength of workers behind them, Congress can win over the zilla parishad.
Nitin Raut said number of farmer suicides rose considerably after BJP came in power. Subodh Mohite stressed on right conduct to face hard times ahead.
Sunita Gawande said zilla parishad and nagar parishad elections are for workers and it’s up to senior leaders to strengthen the lower cadre.
