Nagpur: Following heavy rainfall on Monday evening, the weather department has issued an orange alert for Nagpur, forecasting moderate to heavy showers for Tuesday, September 10. So far this season, the city has recorded 956.3 mm of rainfall.
The weather, which had been sunny in the morning, shifted dramatically around 4 pm on Monday when heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, lashed the city. The downpour lasted for approximately 45 minutes, with 5 mm of rain recorded by 5:30 pm.
In the Vidarbha region, Gondia district experienced the highest rainfall on Monday, recording 53 mm. Other districts also saw rainfall, with Chandrapur receiving 13 mm, Bhamhapuri 7 mm, and Gadchiroli 6 mm.
According to the weather department, the current weather system is being driven by a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, which is pushing moisture into Central India. This system is expected to move towards North Chhattisgarh via Odisha over the next 24 hours, potentially bringing more rain to Nagpur and surrounding areas.
