Nagpur News : A solitary strike was enough for Mumbai to edge Nagpur 1-0 on their way to be crowned champions at Nagpur District Football Association’s 2013-14 Maharashtra Women Inter District Championship Football Tournament on Monday at Police Line Takli ground.

Mumbai came into the final on the back of an undefeated run, maintaining clean sheets in all their matches. On the other hand, hosts Nagpur looked to make the most of the home advantage. The opening period of play failed to produce goals in spite of some attacking football. It was Laura Estebiero’s 30th minute strike that put Mumbai ahead in the 30th minute, against the run of play.

After going 1-0 down, Nagpur pushed hard to repeat a display from their semi-final win against Thane where they scored twice after being one-goal down to win the match.

But unfortunately for them, it was not to be, as Mumbai defended extremely well and hung on to their advantage in the closing stages to take home the title at the final whistle.

Several team and individual awards were up for grabs at the prize distribution ceremony later in the evening. Nagpur Congress president Vikas Thakre, WIFA secretary Souter Vaz and CEO Henry Manezes were the chief guests on the occasion. Prominent among others present were NDFA officials Salim Baig, Haresh Vora, Eugyn Norbert, Iqbal Kashmiri, Abdul Latif, Atmaram Pande, Bernard D”Souza, Satyanarayan Jarput, Pardeep Nagarkar and others.
