Nagpur: Thousands of passengers were in the lurch as many passenger trains were cancelled, short-terminated or diverted following derailment of as twenty coal wagons of a goods train in Nagpur Division affecting the rail route, according to reports on Monday. There was no report of any casualty.
The derailment took place at 11.20 pm on Sunday between Malkhed and Timatla stations on Wardha-Badnera section of the Nagpur Division, a release by the Central Railway said. The up and down lines on the section were affected, it said.
This resulted in the cancellation of various trains including 11122 Wardha-Bhusaval, 12140 Nagpur-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), 12119 Amravati-Nagpur and others. Many trains were also short-terminated at Nagpur and other places, the reports said.

Till 6 pm on Monday, restoration work was not completed and trains of Mumbai-Kolkata route via Nagpur were running on diverted route. Due to this derailment, multiple trains were cancelled, diverted and short-terminated.
Meanwhile, over dozens of trains were cancelled owing to the incident: Wardha-Bhusaval, Nagpur-Pune, Nagpur-CSMT and Nagpur-Wardha are among them. The Puri-Okha JCO train has been diverted via Wadi-Daund-Manmad-Jalgaon, Chennai-Ahmedabad via Narkher-Chandur Bazar-Badnera, Pune-Howrah has been diverted via Badnera-Chandur Bazar-Narkher-Nagpur and Ahmedabad-Puri via Badnera-Chandur Bazar-Narkhed-Nagpur.
The Jabalpur-Amravati was short-terminated at Nagpur and Nizamuddin-Bhusaval was also short-terminated at Nagpur. The Ahmedabad-Chennai and Hisar-Secunderabad trains were diverted via Akola-Secunderabad. The CSMT-Gondia, Pune-Nagpur, Ahmedabad-Nagpur, LTT-Shalimar, and Kolhapur-Gondia trains were diverted via Badnera-Chandur Bazar-Narkher-Nagpur.
