Kalamna police said a 24-year-old youth was killed Friday evening after being struck by a Tata Ace car while he was walking near on Bhandara Road. The 21-year-old driver was arrested and taken into custody.
The accident happened at around 4.30 pm on Friday on Bhandara Road, in front of Murli Cement Gate. The deceased Atul Vitthal Bhandekar, aged 24, was a resident of Valgaon Khurd, Wardha. Police said, Atul was walking by the road when a recklessly driven Tata Ace car (MH 49 D 307) hit him from rear. Atul fell unconscious with the impact of the accident. Passersby rushed Atul to Indiar Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment and informed Kalamana police. The driver, identified as Nikhil Subhasbhai Jivlani (21), a resident of 156/14, Kapsi, was nabbed before he could make an escape. Meanwhile, doctors declared Atul dead after treatment for over 2 hours.
