Nagpur: In yet another hit-and-run case, a rashly-driven Mahindra Bolero pickup truck crushed a motorcyclist to death and seriously injured the pillion rider in front of Paragon Footwear Shop at IC Chowk in MIDC area of Nagpur late Monday evening.
Identified as Pranay Anil Lokhande (21), the deceased was a resident of Isasani, near Anand Boudh Vihar. Injured Gaurav Dadarao Kadu (22), who sustained serious injuries, was admitted to Lata Mangeshkar Hospital.
Pranay and his office colleague Gaurav were going to Kharde Hospital at IC Chowk to meet a patient on a Splendor motorcycle (MH-31/FW3655) around 7.30 pm. A speeding Mahindra Bolero pickup truck coming from behind hit their bike. Pranay and Gaurav fell off the motorcycle. Pranay came under the wheels of the pickup truck. Both suffered serious injuries. The pickup truck driver sped away fearing arrest.
Injured Pranay and Gaurav were rushed to Lata Mangeshkar Hospital. After examining Pranay, doctors declared him ‘brought dead.’ After recording the statement of injured Gaurav, MIDC police registered a case under Sections 106(1), 125(a), 281 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, read with Sections 134, 184, 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act, against the pickup truck driver and launched a search for him.
