Nagpur: The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has ordered Police Commissioner of Nagpur City Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal to address the application submitted by social activist Anil Wadpalliwar, who is seeking police protection.
Wadpalliwar has challenged the validity of various schemes of Maharashtra Government’s that distributed freebies during the election year including Chief Minister’s Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojna. The matter was heard on Tuesday before Justice Vinay Joshi and Justice Abhay Mantri. Wadpalliwar asserted that he faces a threat to his life due to his opposition to these schemes.
He submitted applications to the Commissioner of Police on September 2 and September 30, requesting police security, but no decision has been made. As a result, he filed a petition in the High Court. The court stated in the order that there can be no dispute that it is the duty of the State to see safety and protect the life and liberty of every individual, i.e. of every citizen of the country.
“In view of above, we direct the respondent Commissioner of Police, Nagpur to consider the petitioner’s both the applications dated September 2, 2024 and September 30, 2024 and take expeditious appropriate decision, which is permissible under law,” stated the court. Adv Shreerang Bhandarkar represented the petitioner.
