Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde says mega projects will come to the state. “Prime Minister and Home Minister have given assurance that big projects will come to Maharashtra. The state will further develop,” Shinde said.
The state government has come under severe criticism after four projects slipped away from the state.
The Tata-Airbus C-295 transport aircraft project, which will come up at Vadodara in Gujarat, is the fourth major project, with total investment worth around Rs 1.8 lakh crore, to go to another state in the last three months despite Maharashtra being a contender for the same.
Industries Minister Uday Samant and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari were hopeful of bringing the Rs 22,000-crore Tata-Airbus C-295 transport aircraft manufacturing plant to Nagpurs Mihan. The project was expected to create around 6,000 direct and indirect jobs in the state.
In September, Rs 1.54-lakh crore Vedanta-Foxconn project had gone to Gujarats Dholera. However, the company was to set up a semiconductor fab unit in Maharashtras Talegaon industrial area, for which even the location was finalised. As per estimates, the project and other dependent small industries would have created around one lakh jobs.
Maharashtra was also one of main contenders for the bulk drug park project — estimated to cost around Rs 3,000 crore. The project could have created around 50,000 direct and indirect jobs. Maharashtra was pushing for the project to come up at Roha and Murud tehsils in coastal Raigad district and had earmarked 5,000 acre of land for the same.
