New Delhi After several months of speculation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to bring about changes in his Council of Ministers on Tuesday at 11 am.
At present, there are 66 ministers in the Council including the PM; as per the Constitution, there can be 82. Sources say PM Modi may induct new faces in his council.
Among the most keenly watched changes would be the PM’s pick from politically crucial Uttar Pradesh where elections will be held early next year. Sources said at least two new faces from the state may join the Cabinet.
There are a few vacancies in the council which the PM is expected to fill. Sarbananda Sonowal became the chief minister of Assam and a new sports minister is on the cards. A berth is also vacant for ally Shiv Sena.
In anticipation for the move, BJP president Amit Shah has called MPs, who are likely to be inducted to the Capital today. Calls were reportedly made out to —
Parsottambhai Rupala, Anupriya Patel, Ramdas Athawale, Ajay Tamta, Krishna Raj, SS Ahluwalia, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Arjun Ram Meghwal and P P Choudhary — to reach Delhi around midnight.
