Nagpur: With Lok Sabha Polls around the corner, Nagpur Police have buckled up to ensure the smooth conduct of elections. A heavy police bandobast of 6,319 cops, including units from Chhattisgarh and Karnataka, will be ensuring free and fair elections in Nagpur, informed Police Commissioner (CP) Ravinder Singhal here on Tuesday.
Singhal was addressing a press conference to shed light on police preparations for the Lok Sabha election in Nagpur. Joint Commissioner Aswati Dorje, Addl CPs, DCPs were prominently present on this occasion.
“A total of 2,765 Polling Booths fall under Nagpur Police Commissionerate. A team of Nagpur Police comprising three additional CPs, 10 DCPs, 17 ACPs, PIs, APIs, 321 officers, and 3,218 police personnel along with four companies and two platoons (CISF – 2 Coy, RPF – 1, KSAP – 1 Coy, CRPF – Plat) and 1,850 homeguards will be deployed across Nagpur to ensure free and fair elections on April 19,” informed CP Singhal.
On the sensitive areas ahead of elections, CP Singhal elaborated that, while there are no areas in Nagpur which have a law and order situation, we’ve identified 20 areas as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
CP Singhal also revealed preventive action taken by Nagpur Police.
“Since March 16, when the model code of conduct came into effect, Nagpur Police have initiated preventive actions under Sections 107, 109, 110 on 1,625 criminals. Under MPDA, six criminals were sent to jail. 331 cases of illegal liquor and 123 accused with illegal firearms were arrested in Nagpur,” Singhal said.
Goods worth 85 lakh including Rs 17 lakh cash were also seized by cops in Nagpur.
