Nagpur: Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Singal has issued a directive to all police stations in the city regarding the handling of complaints about lost items or documents. In a circular issued CP has instructed that “It has come to his attention that complainants are often asked to obtain affidavits from notaries to confirm the loss of important documents such as passports, checkbooks, licenses, or certificates.”

Dr. Singal emphasized that this practice is both unlawful and unwarranted, as there is no legal requirement for such affidavits when reporting lost items. He noted that demanding affidavits causes unnecessary inconvenience to the complainants.
