Nagpur: As the Maharashtra Assembly elections approach, political parties in Nagpur are intensifying their activities, including protests and demonstrations. On Sunday, the South-West wing of the Nagpur Congress staged a protest in Trimurti Nagar, alleging bias in the removal of their posters by municipal authorities.

Congress leaders accused the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) of acting with malice, claiming that while all Congress posters were removed, only a few belonging to the BJP were taken down. The controversy arose after Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis celebrated his 53rd birthday, during which BJP leaders put up posters highlighting 53 of Fadnavis’s achievements, including the Nagpur-Pune Metro, Mumbai’s Atal Setu, Navi Mumbai Airport, and other significant projects.

In response, the Congress put up their own posters criticizing Fadnavis for the issues faced by the city, including the recent floods and problems related to cement roads. Their posters accused Fadnavis of failing in the name of development and warned that the electorate would respond in kind during the upcoming elections.

When the NMC began removing these posters on Sunday, Congress leaders launched a protest at Trimurti Nagar Square, where they staged a “Charkha Andolan” to voice their discontent. They accused the NMC of being biased, stating that while 10 Congress posters were removed, only two BJP posters were taken down.

The protest took place just as Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis was scheduled to visit the area for an inspection of cement road construction. A significant police presence was deployed in anticipation of his visit, and the protesters were quickly removed and detained by the police.
