Nagpur: The ongoing conflict between two factions within the BJP over Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) seems to have a dubious reason. Although it appears that the dispute is over the suspension of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Chaudhari, it is believed that there is a larger political agenda behind it, according to a report in Marathi daily Loksatta.

According to the report, information has emerged that the conflict arose due to efforts to gain financial benefits from the recruitment of professors for 92 vacant positions approved by the university. The report stated that a goal of raising Rs 30 crore through this recruitment was set. It is said that a demand of Rs 50 to Rs 80 lakh was made for each appointment. The conflict between the two groups is believed to stem from their desire to maximize gain from this recruitment.

The report further said that the brokers are reportedly active in contacting eligible candidates for the positions, influencing decisions on who gets selected. A few months ago, the going rate for an appointment was Rs 50 lakh, but due to competition, it has now increased to Rs 80 lakh. One of the factions has even prepared a list, with reservations placed on certain names, meaning that those fulfilling the financial conditions are being favoured for appointments, the Marathi daily report added.

This is believed to be the real reason behind the conflict involving suspended Vice-Chancellor Dr. Subhash Chaudhari. According to the report, he was given a list indicating that appointments to the 92 positions were to be made based on significant financial transactions.

Some candidates have reportedly even paid advances. Some candidates claim that a key figure from one of the groups met them and assured them of a job at the university in exchange for a demand of Rs 70 lakh. There are also reports that some candidates have already paid an advance, which has further fuelled the conflict, the report claimed.

What do the two factions say?

According to the report, the BJP leader Dr. Kalpana Pandey, in a press conference, demanded registration cases against BJP MLC Pravin Datke, Governor-nominated Management Council member Samay Bansod, BJP organization secretary Vishnu Chandge, and BJYM General Secretary Shivani Dani for allegedly spreading false information against suspended Vice-Chancellor Dr. Subhash Chaudhari and defaming the university.

In response, Datke, Chandge, Bansod, and Dani have issued a statement accusing Pandey of suspiciously siding with Dr. Chaudhari and ‘MKCL,’ despite having no prior knowledge of their history.
