Power theft worth Rs 52.55 lakh detected at 7 industrial consumers in Nagpur

Nagpur: In a major action, the Flying Squad of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (Mahavitaran) and Lashkaribagh Sub-Division jointly conducted a drive and detected power theft worth Rs 52.55 lakh being committed by seven industrial consumers. Subsequently, four industrial consumers paid Rs 10.60 lakh as settlement.

In this joint operation carried out by the Flying Squad of Nagpur City and Nagpur Rural Divisions and engineers and employees of the Larshibagh Sub-Division of Mahavitaran, as many as 3.14 lakh units of electricity theft from seven consumers in the area of Nari and Kamptee were revealed.

The estimated value of this theft is around Rs 52.55 lakh and a case has been registered against these seven consumers under Section 135 of the Indian Electricity Act. In six of these seven cases, the meter was bypassed by tapping the incoming cable from another customer, while in one case it was observed that the electricity was being tripped with the help of a remote control.

All these seven electricity consumers were charged a fine of Rs 52.55 lakh plus Rs 20.90 lakh for power theft, out of which four customers paid Rs 18.25 lakh for power theft and Rs 10.60 lakh as settlement of dues.

The campaign was carried out under the guidance of Regional Director of Mahavitaran Suhas Rangari, Chief Engineer Dilip Dodke, Superintending Engineer Amit Paranjape, Deputy Director (Safety & Enforcement) Sunil Thapekar, Executive Engineer Rajesh Ghatole and Additional Executive Engineers Hemendra Gaur, Shrikant Talegaonkar and Vivek Raut and other employees.
