Nagpur: The Wardha Road Double Decker Via-duct of Maha Metro’s Nagpur Metro Rail Project, which has crossed several milestones, has featured in the Guinness World Records as the ‘Longest Double-Decker’ in Metro category across the world. The 3.14 km long Wardha Road double-decker via-duct has already been certified as the longest structure in Asia and India by Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records respectively.

Dr Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director of Maha Metro, will receive the certificate for the prestigious Guinness World Record at an event to be held at Metro Bhawan on December 6. Rishi Nath, judge and adjudicator of Guinness World Records headquartered at London, will present the certificate to Dr Dixit.

According to Maha Metro officials, executing the double-decker via-duct project on Wardha Road was a major challenge. It is part of a three-layer structure with Metro Rail at the top, highway flyover at the middle level, and the existing road at the ground level. Maha Metro had applied for the Guinness World Record, whose Indian representative studied the proposal with the technical team. Later, the team announced Guinness World Records certification to Maha Metro in this regard.

Maha Metro officials feel that the recognition is a genuine indicator of the way Maha Metro has been executing the project in Nagpur. Earlier, Maha Metro had found place in Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records for not just the ‘Longest Double-Decker Viaduct’ but also for ‘Maximum Metro Stations Constructed on a Double-Decker ViaDuct’.

Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, had presented the certificates for these two Records at an event held on July 10 earlier this year at Convention Centre, Airport South Metro Station. In 2017, Maha Metro Nagpur was chosen for another record by the twin agencies — India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records. In March 2017, Maha Metro was awarded for the ‘Largest Human Chain’ organised for promoting ‘Safety at Work’. The participants in the human chain included labourers, supervisors, managers, and other officers.
