Nagpur: ‘Dealing with all diseases affecting lungs, the field of Pulmonology has evolved in last decade from just managing TB Cases to doing complicated interventions in Respiratory Diseases through Bronchoscope & Thoracoscope.
It has sub-specialties in itself like Sleep Medicine, Interventional Pulmonology, Allergy and Immunotherapy, Pulmonary Rehabilitation etc .- Said Prof Dr Deelip Mhaisekar, Vice Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences who himself is a Pulmonologist. He further said that Pulmonologist who are trained to manage all ailments afflicting lungs causing respiratory problems are needed more and more in number with increased incidence of Asthma, COPD, Pneumonia, Interstitial Lung Diseases, Lung Cancer, Sleep Apnea etc. Prof Mhaisekar was speaking as Chief Guest during installation of new elected body of Vidarbha Chest Association (VCA) here at Nagpur held on Sunday. Dr Ashish Deshmukh, MLA, Katol while speaking as Guest of Honor mentioned about largest incidence of COPD in India mostly caused due to smoking tobacco as elsewhere in the world but also due to inhalation of smoke caused by burning of biomass fuel in rural kitchens in India.
He emphasized importance of our PM Narendra Modi’s program of replacing these polluting ‘chullahas’ with gas cylinder in “Give up subsidy “initiative to reduce incidence of this incurable COPD disease in India. Prof Dr Kajal Mitra, Dean of NKPSIMS & LMH who was also Guest of Honour at the function praised small society like VCA for holding meetings on a regular basis to update knowledge of its members. After installation Presidential Oration was given by Dr B O Tayade on ‘ Progmmatic management of MDR TB’ A CME was held on the occasion on ‘Pulmonary Rehabilitation’.Dr Alpa Dalal,Head of Department, Jupiter Hospital,Thane stressed importance of Pulmonary Rehabilitation in managing debilitating respiratory symptoms of breathlessness, cough & expectoration of many incurable lung diseases and improving quality of life in such patients.Dr Ankita Asher & Dr Nikita Jalan both Respiratory Rehabilitationalist from Mumbai & Pune respectively also delivered their talks in the CME.

The Executive body (2016-18) of Vidarbha Chest Association is lead by Prof Dr B O Tayade, Head of the Department of Pulmonology at NKPSIMS & LMH and Dr Rajesh Swarnakar, Sr Pulmonologist & Director of Getwell Hospital as Secretary who were ceremoniously installed in glittering function at the hands Vice Chancellor of MUHS. Outgoing President Dr Ashok Arbat gave welcome speech while outgoing Secretary Dr Rajesh Ballal presented activity report of his tenure. The body that assumed office included Prof Dr Radha Munje as Vice President, Dr Sumer Chaudhary as Treasurer and Dr Vivek Gupta & Dr Nainesh Patel as Joint Secretaries. Executive committee members installed are : Dr Ajay Gandhi, Dr Aniket Bhadke ,Dr Gautam Mohril, Dr Aditya Parihar, Dr Asish Nikhare, Dr Vikrant Deshmukh, Dr Vineet Niranjane,Dr Gyanshankar Mishra,Dr Akash Balki & Dr Aniket Bhadke.
