Nagpur: The building housing office of Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-IV and that of Ajni Division of Traffic Control Branch will be demolished by the Railway for the proposed Laxman Jhula (Railway Overbridge) at Ajni. The building is on Railway land and a notice has been issued to vacate the building.

Notably, 27 shops stretching from Kamble Square till Ajni Railway Overbridge (RoB) were already bulldozed recently by the Divisional Railway authorities to make way for proposed new 8-laned cable-stayed bridge. Two months back, Central Railway’s Nagpur Division had issued notices about termination of shop lease to the shopkeepers and granted time to vacate.

The office of Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-IV and that of Ajni Division of Traffic Control Branch has been functioning from the building situated on Railway land. The proposed new 8-laned cable-stayed bridge has been named Laxman Jhula.

According to media reports, the new Inter Modal Railway Flyover is going to be constructed from Ajni Square to Medical Square. The flyover would be on the lines of Ramjhula which is situated near Nagpur Railway Station. This 238-metre Laxman Jhula would approximately cost Rs 333 crore.

The media reports further said that the office of Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-IV was first proposed on the second floor of Hudkeshwar Police Station Building. But it could not be shifted as the office of Assistant Commissioner of Police started functioning from that building. Now there is plan to construct two more floors at Hudkeshwar Police Station Building for accommodating office of Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-IV.

After demolition of 27 shops stretching from Kamble Square till Ajni Railway Overbridge (RoB), now only the building housing office of Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-IV and that of Ajni Division of Traffic Control Branch remains on the road stretch and they too are issued notice to vacate the premises. Once their alternate office location is finalised, the building is also going to be demolished. Thereafter a garden of Ajni Railway Colony will also need to be removed to pave way for levelling the ground and starting basic work for approach of the new bridge.

According to the scheme of things, in the first phase, a four-lane bridge will be constructed on the Southern end, adjoining the existing Ajni RoB. One of the approaches of the new RoB will start from Kamble Square and its landing could either be near the office of Irrigation Department or near Chunabhatti. Thereafter in the second phase the old RoB will be demolished to enable construction of a new four lane cable-stayed bridge, connecting Congress Nagar with Ajni Railway Colony.
