Rajasthan’s runaway couple kidnapped in Nagpur; Rs 12 lakh ransom demanded

Nagpur: A harrowing case of abduction has come to light as a runaway couple from Rajasthan was allegedly kidnapped in Nagpur. The abductors reportedly demanded Rs 12 lakh as ransom from the couple.

Sadar Police have registered a case against four individuals, identified as Sam alias Mohammad Sameer Khan, Jishan, Sultan, and Arif. Among the accused, Sam has been arrested, while the others remain at large.

According to the police, Rajesh (name changed), a native of Nagore, Rajasthan, has been working at a hotel in Hyderabad. He had been in a relationship with a girl from Rajasthan for eight years. In 2021, while travelling to Nagpur, Rajesh met Sam on a train. During their conversation, Sam claimed that he assists runaway couples in getting married and even shared his contact details.

On August 11, 2024, Rajesh and his girlfriend arrived in Nagpur, seeking Sam’s help. However, on August 22, Sam, along with his accomplices, took the couple to a farmhouse under the pretext of assisting them. Once there, the couple was confined to separate rooms. Sam then threatened Rajesh, demanding Rs 12 lakh as ransom. The kidnappers even snatched Rs 8,000 from Rajesh during the ordeal.

The Sadar Police have initiated an investigation into the case and are actively searching for the remaining accused. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
