Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation will soon shut the recently opened Ramdaspeth Canal Bridge for at least 10 days to complete remaining construction work, a local media report said.

According to the report, Sunny Infra requested permission from NMC’s Public Works Department to close University Library Square and Ramdaspeth Canal Road for vehicular traffic to make room for the remaining half of bridge’s side work over Nag River. In addition to the bridge, NMC will close Ramdaspeth Canal Road to level the carriageway with the bridge.

In the meantime, Pune-based T&T Infra will start launching girders on the newly under construction bridge across the Nag River at Panchsheel Square that connects north and south Nagpur within a couple of days.

Notably, the new bridge at Ramdaspeth was thrown open for traffic partially on February 1. The bridge had been closed for around two years after a portion of it washed away due to flooding in Nag River.

As only one side of the bridge is completed, NMC had allowed only two-wheelers and three-wheelers’ movement on the bridge to avoid congestion. The bridge is crucial for smooth connectivity and easing congestion in the mid section of the city.

NMC officials at that had said work on the second part of the bridge would be completed by March end. Slab work is on, after which approaches and tarring would be done. Construction of retaining walls also is in full swing.
