Nagpur: In a shocking turn of events, a man out on bail was arrested by Gittikhadan Police for attempting to kill a girl who accused him of sexually exploiting her last year.
Identified as Raj alias Raghvendra Radhyeshyam Yadav (31), the accused is a resident of Aishwarya Residency, Vasudeo Nagar, Hingna.
According to police, the accused Raj, a transporter, befriended the 23-year-old victim residing in Mankapur area on Instagram in 2020. Last year, he allegedly raped her in Hingna area. After the victim lodged a complaint against Raj, Hingna Police registered a case against him on December 5, 2023, and arrested him. Raj was sent to Central Jail after the court remanded him to magisterial custody.
On January 10 this year, he was released on bail. Around 7.45 pm on Monday, the victim went to Telangkhedi Hanuman Mandir on her Hero Pleasure scooter. Raj had also come to the temple. On seeing Raj, the victim decided to return home. When she was going home, Raj started chasing her in his Mahindra XUV500 car (MH-31/FA-5269) from Telangkhedi Hanuman Mandir up to TV Tower. On the slope on IBM Road, he dashed her scooter from behind.
As the victim fell off the scooter, he allegedly tried to mow her down with his car and sped away. Residents rushed to rescue the girl who sustained injuries and called the police. Cops arrived at the spot immediately and took the victim to the hospital.
Following the victim’s complaint, police registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) against Raj who was later put behind bars. Further investigations are underway.
