Nagpur: Transmission-linked solar energy projects are being set up at 230 different locations in the North Nagpur area to encourage people to use non-conventional energy sources. On Wednesday, Energy Minister Dr. Nitin Raut inaugurated solar power projects at four different places.
“Due to increasing industrialization and urbanization in the state, the demand for conventional electricity is increasing day by day. Generating this electricity is a major contributor to air pollution. This is causing global warming and the adverse effects of climate change on everyone. The Government of Maharashtra is committed to generating electricity from non-conventional energy sources as a solution to this problem. These projects will help in environmental conservation and saving in electricity bills and will create awareness”, said the Guardian Minister.
In North Nagpur, a 5 KW solar power transmission connected project was established near Badi Masjid, Bande Nawaz Square. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 2.45 lakh and it is expected to generate 6000 units of electricity. Similarly a 4 KW capacity solar power project was established near Abu Bakar Madrasa, Teka. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1.95 lakh and it is expected to generate 4800 units of electricity per year.
Similarly, 2 KW electricity is being generated at Mata Velankanni Greto Church, Jaripatka, through a 3 KW project in Ashok Nagar. Small projects will generate electricity on a large scale. This will reduce the load on the thermal power plant and will also help in reducing the level of pollution, Raut said.
