After inquiry reports from these agencies, further action would be initiated, said a police official. The offence was registered under Sections 304 (a) and 286 of IPC against unidentified persons on the complaint of API Pankaj Waghode, incharge, Kondhali police station. The investigation is underway with three parallel inquiries conducted by the local police, Petroleum & Explosive Safety Organisation (PESA), and the District Collectorate. Subsequent actions will be determined upon receiving inquiry reports from these agencies. Supervisor Pradip Dadaro Ambole (30), in his statement recorded in the First Information Report (FIR), detailed the sequence of events. Ambole, along with Packing and Loading operators Aade and Lanjewar, was sieving at the Cast Booster House from 6 am.
They were engaged in the production and packaging of Trinitrotoluene (TNT) in the boosters. At 8.45 am, Ambole went out from the room to the washroom while Aade and Lanjewar left the Cast Booster House to keep a box in the TNT office. Other workers and an apprentice supervisor were engaged in sieving of the TNT when the blast took place. “I heard the explosion in the washroom,” stated Ambole in the FIR. Ambole quickly ran from the Washroom only to see the collapsed Cast Booster House and smoke emanating from the debris, he stated.
“The workers were sieving the TNT after filling it into a booster intended for coal mine detonation,” the official said. The bodies of nine workers, on the morning shift from 6 am to 2 pm, were blown to pieces in the blast. The search teams are facing tremendous problems to identify the body parts which are burnt beyond recognition. The blown body parts are found trapped inside the debris of the building. The high-intensity explosion was heard by locals kilometres from the site and even tremors were felt at nearby villages
