Under the overarching theme of ‘Reformation and Rehabilitation,’ Nagpur Central Jail has been committed to enhancing the lives of its inmates. Through a series of skill-based training programs, inmates are equipped with essential skills aimed at facilitating their successful reintegration into society upon completing their sentences. These initiatives not only foster personal development but also contribute to the financial support of inmates’ families, covering daily needs and legal fees.
The past year marked a record-breaking achievement for Nagpur Central Jail, with 166 inmates significantly contributing to the institution’s income through skilled work. The quality and durability of goods manufactured within the prison walls have garnered attention, particularly within judicial circles, solidifying the reputation of Nagpur Central Jail as a hub for superior craftsmanship.
In addition to manufacturing, the prison engages in agriculture, further diversifying its revenue streams. From April 2023 to March 2024, the institution generated an impressive income of Rs 29.50 lakh from agricultural activities, showcasing its multifaceted approach to self-sustainability and financial viability.
Annually, during Diwali, Nagpur Central Jail organizes a sale and exhibition of prison-produced goods, attracting a significant audience drawn to the superior craftsmanship on display. Products such as wooden and iron furniture have gained widespread popularity, becoming the preferred choice for courts and government offices across the Vidarbha region. Nagpur Central Jail has received numerous orders to supply furniture to government offices, including four courts in Vidarbha, and has become a sought-after provider in neighboring districts such as Arvi, Washim, and Bhandara.
