Nagpur/Amravati: Tension ran high in Jalaram Nagar area of Amravti when a retired female teacher was murdered brutally when she was alone in her house on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Shailaja Omprakash Nilange (61).She was found strangulated to death. Six accused youths, residing in her neighbourhood, have been arrested in this connection.
Shailaja was teacher at local Samarth High School and had taken voluntary retirement seven years ago. She was the mother of Akshay Nilange, working with Election Department of Amravati Municipal Corporation and presently the PA to Chairman of the Standing Committee.
The murder came to light on Wednesday morning when her tenant Dhiraj Shinde called her on the phone as usual for starting water motor. But when she failed to answer the phone, he peeped inside the house and was shocked to find her lying on the bed and the bedsheet smeared with blood. He immediately informed Shailaja’s sister Pratibha Hegu, who stays in the same colony. Frezarpura Police also reached the spot and performed panchanama. Dog squad and finger print expert were summoned to the spot. Chinmay Pandit, Deputy Commissioner of Police, and Chetana Tidke, ACP, also paid a visit. Police found that the backdoor of the house was open. According to cops, Shailaja was probably strangulated with a scarf and smothered with a cushion. The bedsheet had got stained as blood came out from her nose and mouth. Police have seized her broken teeth, the scarf, a remote control and the bedsheet. Meanwhile, Shailaja’s brother who lives in the neighbourhood too has four students as tenants. The students were allegedly partying till late night and so cops had summoned them to get some lead in the case.
