Rice Export: HC directs Sudan-based-firm to deposit Rs 12.82 crore in court

Nagpur: The Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court has directed Sudan based Abreen Factory Foods Staff and Packaging to deposit Rs 12.82 crore in the court, following a petition filed by Shah Nanji Nagsi Exports Private Limited. The court has also sought explanation from the foreign company in the rice export matter.

It is pertinent to mention that the petitioner and Sudan based firm had signed business agreements between January 16, 2018 and February 20, 2018 for selling and buying of golden and black rice. Abreen Factory Foods Staff and Packaging was meant to buy these rice.

Adv Sahil Dewani, who represented the petitioner, informed the Court that Sudan based firm refused to accept consignment of Black Rice despite being in agreement with Shah Nanji Nagsi Exports Private Limited. Despite the petitioner having made all the arrangements to send the consignment to the designated spot. The petitioner also wrote to Abreen Factory Foods Staff and Packaging elaborated the losses he would face but in vain. Following which, the petitioner knocked on the door of the court.
