Nagpur: Ritika Thaker scripted history by winning Hutzor U-17 Junior International Badminton Tournament organised at Kibbutz in Israel. The tournament was organised by World Badminton Federation (BWF).
In the summit clash, the extremely promising shuttler from city defeated top seed Dana Danilenco of Israel 21-11, 21-13 to clinch the title. A student of CDS (Chandadevi Saraf School), Thaker is just 15-year-old and she had participated in the tournament as an unseeded player. But, with her determined approach and positive thinking, she went past all the hurdles successfully to emerge champion.
She had defeated Linoy Tamanev of Israel in the semis. In the finals, she easily overpower her opponent from the host nation in straight sets.
She was the only girl in the 10-member Indian team selected by Indian Badminton Association (BAI) for the tournament. Ritika had also participated in the doubles category where she teamed up with 13-year-old from Israel Rotem Mogilner. However, her campaign ended in the early stages.
Expressing happiness over Rikita’s success her father Rahul Thaker and coach Robin Simon had acknowledged Nagpur District, Maharashtra State and Indian Badminton Association for providing this chance to her.
