Nagpur: Ritika alias Ritu Dinesh Malu surrendered to Nagpur Police on Monday, July 1, following the rejection of her bail applications by both the Nagpur District and Sessions Court, as well as the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court.
Sources report that Malu is scheduled to appear before the magistrate at approximately 3:30 PM.
The surrender comes in the aftermath of a tragic incident on February 25, where Ritika Dinesh Malu allegedly drove a speeding Mercedes under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the deaths of Mohammad Hussain Gulam Mustafa (34) from Mominpura and Mohammad Atif (32) from Jafar Nagar. Initially facing charges under Section 304(a) of the IPC and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act—both bailable offenses—Malu was granted bail by the JMFC court. However, upon the confirmation of her intoxication through a blood sample report, police upgraded the charges to include Section 304 of the IPC.
Subsequently, police requested Malu’s custody from the JMFC, which was denied. Her application for anticipatory bail in the non-bailable offense was further rejected by the District and Sessions Court. The High Court upheld this decision, denying anticipatory bail to Malu.
