One of the most talented young film directors of the country Rituparno Ghosh, died at his home here around 7.30am on Thursday. He was 49.
Mr Ghosh was suffering from pancreatitis and died of heart attack at 7.30 am, his family said.
Rituparno had last tweeted on May 28, 2013 about his last film Satyanewshi.
“Wrapped up the shoot of Satyanewshi, a crime thriller in the molten glow of the pensive falling afternoon,” he tweeted. “Surprising that the brooding prince of Indian cinema Guru Dutt, stayed in the same palatial mansion to film his Sahab Biwi aur Ghulam,” he had posted.
As news of his death spread, a pall of gloom descended on Tollywood. Thespian Soumitra Chatterjee deeply mourned Ghosh’s death, saying, “I cannot believe that Rituparno is no more. It is very difficult to accept this news. We lost a very promising film director at a very early age.”
Many film actors and actresses thronged his residence to pay their last respects.
