Nagpur: An employee of Rokde Jewellers has been arrested by Kotwali Police for allegedly defrauding both a customer and the company of a 20-gram gold coin on June 1.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by Rajesh Bhaiyyaji Rokde, 52, director of Rokde Jewellers and resident of Empress City Building, Cotton Market. The accused, identified as Virendra Rajesh Chaudhary (26) from Chandramani Nagar, Galli No. 6, Ajni, was booked under Section 408 of the IPC.
According to the complaint, Virendra was employed at the cash counter of Rokde Jewellers’ outlet at Badkas Chowk, Mahal. On June 1, he allegedly mishandled an online booking for a 20-gram gold coin, using an old customer ID to place a new order. This act resulted in Rokde Jewellers losing the gold coin valued at Rs. 1.45 lakh.
The discrepancy came to light during a routine review of transactions, prompting Rajesh Rokde to approach Kotwali Police Station with a formal complaint.
Following the investigation, the police arrested the accused and successfully recovered the gold coin. The case remains under further investigation.
