Rs 130 cr work order issued for Deekshabhoomi development, HC told

Nagpur: A work order amounting to Rs 130 crore has been officially issued for the development of Deekshabhoomi.

The Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) informed the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Wednesday that the beautification and redevelopment of Deekshabhoomi are scheduled to be completed within the next 24 months. The disclosure took place during a hearing before Justice Nitin Sambre and Justice Abhay Mantri in the court. The work order for the Deekshabhoomi development project was sanctioned on October 20, 2023.

The responsibility for executing the development work has been entrusted to NMRDA in collaboration with the YFC-BBG Company from Gurgaon. A dedicated committee has been appointed to oversee and inspect the progress of this development work. NMRDA had submitted a proposal for the second phase of Deekshabhoomi’s development which amounted to Rs 181 crore, to the State Government on September 4, 2018.

In response to the affidavit presented on Wednesday, Advocate Shailesh Narnawre requested the High Court for an extension until January 31. During the previous hearing, the High Court had sought clarification from NMRDA regarding the status of Deekshabhoomi’s development. The court also instructed the proper submission of information regarding the work’s status and its anticipated duration.

Advocate Narnawre’s Public Interest Litigation remains pending regarding the beautification of Deekshabhoomi. In the earlier hearing, Sanjay Chimurkar, Executive Engineer (Project Division) of NMRDA, informed the High Court through an affidavit that administrative approval of Rs 181 crore had been granted. Additionally, it was informed that the YFC-BBG Company from Gurgaon had been awarded the contract, and a work order of Rs 130 crore had been issued for the development work.

The petitioner’s plea stressed on the comprehensive development of Deekshabhoomi with religious, spiritual, educational, health facilities, and tourism perspectives.
