Nagpur: The absconding accused in the Rs 4.68 crore crypto fraud, Mohammadi Begum Mohd Irfan was nabbed by Hyderabad police when she arrived from Saudi Arabia and was handed over to Nagpur police.
The arrested accused was one of the five directors of Korbit Coin firm which duped investors of over Rs 4.68 crore by promising them high returns. The accused, Mohammadi Begum (38), daughter of Shabbir Pasha Junaidi and wife of Mohammad Irfanuddin, is a resident of Plot No 327, Gulshan-e-Arafat Colony, Kalaburagi (Gulbarga), Karnataka.
Cops had issued a look out circular against her. After she landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, from Saudi Arabia, the Bureau of Immigration took her into custody on April 17. The Economic Offences Wing of Nagpur Crime Branch then arrested Mohammadi Begum and obtained remand for her custodial interrogation.
Other accused in the case including Mohammad Habib Mohammad Hanif (39), a native of Karnataka, Mohammad Abbas Mohammad Yusuf (34), a resident of Ward No 5, Ahmedgarh, Punjab, Omar Ahmed Sheikh and Burhan Sheikh are at large. A resident of Plot No 202, Chetak Apartment, Dronacharya Nagar, Santosh Ambadas Londhe (48) had lodged a complaint that the accused lured him and six others to invest money in Korbit Coin firm by assuring hefty returns.
Accused Mohammadi Begum, Mohammad Sheikh, Ahmed Sheikh and Burhan Sheikh had come to the city and had stayed at Hotel Airport Centre Point. After negotiating with investors, they gained their confidence. Between March 5, 2021 and January 4, 2022, Londhe and six others invested Rs 6. 58 crore in the firm. However, the investors received only Rs 1.89 crore from the accused and the scamsters duped him and others of Rs 4.68 crore.
Following Londhe’s complaint, Sonegaon Police on January 24 had registered a case under Sections 420, 406 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Section 3 of Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (In Financial Establishments) Act, and Sections 4 and 5 of Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, against the accused persons.
