Rs 683 cr development plan for Nagpur’s Mankapur Sports Complex approved

Nagpur: Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Guardian Minister of Nagpur Devendra Fadnavis has okayed Rs 683 crore expansion plan for Divisional Sports Complex, Mankapur. According to the expansion plan, basic works for providing international standard sports facilities and commercial facilities at the complex has been finalised after the approval from Fadnavis.

The meeting of the Divisional Sports Complex Executive Committee was held on Monday. Divisional Commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari, District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Saumya Sharma, Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Services, Nagpur Division Shekhar Patil, District Sports Officer Pallavi Dhatrak, Arjuna and Dronacharya award winner Vijay Munishwar, NMC Sports Officer Piyush Ambulkar and others were present during the meeting.

Bidari ordered to speed up the work of building an up-to-date sports complex of international standard. She instructed the departments concerned to take the project on priority basis as per availability of funds. “The work should be completed in a phased manner,” she added.

Collector Dr Itankar instructed that all the sports facilities should be of international standards so that competitions of that level could be organised in Nagpur. Upgradation of existing facilities at Divisional Sports Complex, sports club, sports science centre, facilities for adventure sports, football stadium, hockey astro turf, athletics stadium, tennis courts, multipurpose gymnasium, sports education and information centre, international standard sports excellence centre, Olympic size swimming pool, courts for kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, designated area for wrestling, archery, shooting, fencing, squash, boxing, judo, karate, taekwondo, table tennis, basketball, softball, handball, cricket and other sports has been included in the final plan.

Accommodation for around 1200 players, parking for 700 vehicles and solar power system will be set up at the complex. The plan also includes construction of sports facilities and commercial projects including shopping complex, hotels, sports club on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis so that the maintenance of the sports complex can be managed.
