Nagpur: In a sensational burglary in Mankapur Police Station area, a gang of thieves looted Rs 70 lakh cash and some gold ornaments worth Rs 40,000 from the bungalow of a woman and drove away with the booty in the latter’s car.
Manisha Vijay Kapai (52), a resident of Plot No 07, Vaishnav Kuti, Saibaba Colony, Mankapur and her son had gone to Amritsar following the death of her mother. The house was locked between May 14 and May 17. Grabbing the opportunity, burglars struck at her house. They first broke the lock of the compound gate. They then sneaked into the house after breaking the door lock. The intruders climbed the stairs and went inside a bedroom on the first floor. After breaking the locker of an almirah, they collected the cash and gold ornaments.

The intruders took the keys of Manisha’s Maruti Zen car (MH-31/CP-2272) and came out of the bungalow. The gang then boarded the car and drove away with the loot. When Manisha returned home from Amritsar, she was shocked to find the cash, ornaments and car stolen. Staff from Mankapur Police led by Senior Inspector Shubhangi Wankhede visited the spot after receiving the information about the house break-in and started the probe.
Senior Police officials, who visited the bungalow to supervise the investigation, summoned fingerprint experts to trace the culprits. Senior Inspector Shubhangi Wankhede said that Manisha was working online for a private company. Her husband Vijay Kapai, who was also an executive in a private company, passed away last year. Manisha had kept the cash in her house after receiving the insurance amount and other benefits after the death of her husband.
On the basis of Manisha’s complaint, police registered a case under Sections 454, 457, 380 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigations are underway.
