Nagpur: In a significant development, the security protocol for RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat has been elevated from Z-plus to an Advance Security Liaison (ASL) drill, bringing it in line with the security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, a local daily reported.
This upgrade, according to the report, was finalized a fortnight ago following a comprehensive review of Bhagwat’s security, which was reportedly found to be lacking during his visits to States governed by non-BJP parties.
Previously, Bhagwat’s Z-plus security comprised officers and guards on deputation from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). However, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) decided to enhance his protection after inputs from various agencies indicated a heightened threat perception. These agencies pointed to the RSS Chief being a potential target of several organizations, including radical Islamist outfits. Consequently, Bhagwat has now been designated as an “ASL protectee.”
The ASL protocol mandates the involvement of local agencies such as the district administration, police, health, and other departments related to the protectee’s security and safety. This enhanced security includes anti-sabotage checks and the establishment of multi-layered security rings. Additionally, any chopper travel for Bhagwat will be conducted only in specially designed helicopters, adhering strictly to the stipulated protocol.
All states and Union Territories have been officially informed of this security upgrade, ensuring that the enhanced measures are implemented wherever Bhagwat travels.
