Nagpur: In view of the Bihar State conducting a caste-based census to provide reservation in accordance with the population of various castes, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has expressed its opinion. The RSS opposition to this caste-based census has been made clear by the RSS Vidarbha Sahsanghchalak Shridhar Gadge, local media reports said.

Following the Bihar move, the caste census demand has now surfaced in Maharashtra, urging for a similar caste-based census, originating from social organizations. Politicians have spoken about the necessity of this census as a means to potentially challenge the existing reservation system.

Shridhar Gadge, explicitly stated on Tuesday, December 19, the role of the RSS in opposing the caste-based census. He presented an argument that conducting a caste-based census could generate divergent sentiments among societies with either lower or higher numbers within them.

The RSS functionary said, “Moreover, the question of the actual benefits of the caste-based census to the country was raised by political leaders. They expressed doubts regarding any significant advantage resulting from this census. Those in favour of the census insisted on explaining the necessity and potential benefits, while opponents remained sceptical,” he stated.

“If such a caste-based census were to happen, it would reveal the numerical strength of each community within society. Communities with lower numbers might feel marginalized, potentially leading to their suppression. On the other hand, communities with larger numbers might strive for dominance. This issue has become a matter of political parties’ self-interest. Therefore, I believe those advocating for the caste-based census should clearly articulate the benefits that could be derived from it. Additionally, they should provide the nation with information about its potential advantages,” emphasized Gadge.

During the day, members of the Shinde group, along with BJP legislators, visited the RSS headquarters. Gadge addressed them, whereas Ajit Pawar’s group didn’t visit the RSS headquarters. Neither the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde nor the BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were present at the RSS headquarters.

The RSS organized a program where the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister’s absence was noticeable. The program aimed to guide supportive legislators of the BJP, who are attending the Winter Session of State Legislature in Nagpur. Shridhar Gadge, offered a five-point guidance for the legislators during this session.
