Rural cops swoop on five gambling dens, arrest 29 persons

Nagpur: In a major crackdown on gambling dens, Nagpur Rural police on Thursday raided at five places and arrested a total of 29 gamblers. Cops also seized cash, mobile handsets, vehicles and other gambling material collectively valued at over Rs 5 lakh. The raids were carried out under the jurisdictions of Kalmeshwar, Umred, and Khaparkheda Police Stations.

The first raid was undertaken by Kalmeshwar police at a farm land in Mauza Dhapewada. The raiding cops found five persons gambling. The five accused were arrested and cash, nine motorcycles, mobiles and other gambling material worth Rs 2.28 lakh seized from their possession.

Kamlmeshwar police again swooped on a gambling den near MIDC Square in the town. In this raid three gamblers were arrested and material seized from them.

Similarly, Khaparkheda police raided a den near Pipla Gram Panchayat office and surrounded the place. The raiding cops found a number of persons indulging in gambling while playing cards. Ten gamblers were arrested and cash, 10 mobile handsets, packs of playing cards and other gambling stuff were seized from the arrested accused. The seized material is worth Rs 68,000.

Umred cops too swooped on two places where gambling was in full swing. In these two raids, a total of 11 gamblers were taken into custody. The raids also yielded cash, mobile phones, vehicles and other stuff being used in gambling. The total seizer was worth Rs 1.90 lakh.

All the raids were given effect under the guidance of Superintendent of Police (Rural) Dr Arti Singh.
