Nagpur: In a significant stride towards bolstering safety measures for parcel traffic and passenger trains, the Nagpur Parcel Office at Railway Station installed cutting-edge Parcel Tunnel Scanner. This state-of-the-art technology promises to revolutionise the security landscape, ensuring the thorough inspection of parcels before their embarkation onto trains.
The introduction of the Parcel Scanner/Tunnel marks a pivotal moment for the Nagpur Parcel Office, as it fortifies its commitment to the safety and security of parcels in transit. With the capability to detect prohibited and dangerous items, this advanced scanner serves as a formidable deterrent against potential threats, thereby safeguarding both cargo and commuters.
Additionally, there are plans to install similar scanners at Ajni, Betul, and Ballarshah stations, contingent upon the volume of parcel traffic and operation ability. Under the new mandate, all non-leased parcels, including luggage consignments booked through the Parcel Office, and originating/intermediate leased consignments to be loaded from Nagpur Station will undergo mandatory scanning before loading.
The licensee shoulders the responsibility of ensuring accurate scanning of packages, with a post-scanning sticker, affixed to each item before acceptance for booking. In a bid to guarantee 100% scanning coverage, the licensee has committed to maintaining stand-by power supply, round-the-clock manpower, and deploying handheld scanners for packages that couldn’t be scanned initially or are Over Dimensional Consignments (ODC).
Furthermore, a seamless mechanism will be adopted at Railway Parcel Booking Counters, enhancing public safety and thwarting prohibited activities. This proactive measure aims to mitigate the risk of mishaps or fire incidents due to parcels in trains, ensuring a safe and secure journey for all passengers. The implementation of the Parcel Tunnel Scanner heralds a new era of security and efficiency for the Nagpur Parcel Office.
