A cute baby girl was born at Matruseva Sangh, Nagpur. The newborn baby’s oxygen level at birth was 70-80%, which was critical. The baby was immediately given oxygen. However, the amount of oxygen was less than required. Even after 2 days of treatment, the baby’s condition was critical. The treating doctor contacted the doctor at Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Digdoh Hills, Hingna Road, Nagpur.
The Paediatrician of Lata Mangeshkar Hospital suggested to send the baby immediately. The doctor had made all preparations for the treatment till the baby arrived. As soon as the baby reached critical condition, she was immediately admitted to the Neonatal ICU and put on a ventilator. Essential diagnostic tests were performed.
The hospital’s renowned Cardiologist Dr. Hitendra Bhagwatkar also conducted few tests. He noticed that one of the baby’s heart valves was closed at birth. Due to this, the blood circulation and oxygen supply is not getting right. This is a very rare case of a 2-day-old baby, an immediate decision was required to undergo surgery. But according to Dr. Bhagwatkar’s opinion, doing surgery on a 2-day-old baby is very risky. At his own risk, he performed a rare emergency cardiac procedure through the baby’s leg and freed the blocked valve (that is called Emergency Balloon Valvotomy on a newborn baby, with Congenital Severe Pulmonary Stenosis). After that, the blood supply and oxygen supply to the heart was successfully started. Now the baby’s oxygen content is 100%. The baby is healthy and the parents have expressed their happiness and thanked the doctors and team at Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Hingna Road, Nagpur.
In this procedure, well-known Cardiologist Dr. Hitendra Bhagwatkar (Head of Cardiology Department, Lata Mangeshkar Hospital) and his team comprising of Dr. Manish Chokhandare (Pediatric Cardiologist), Dr. Roshan (Cardiac Anaesthetist) performed brilliantly. Dr. Girish Nanoti (Head of Pediatrics) and team carefully treated the baby on ventilator in Neonatal ICU. The doctors of Lata Mangeshkar Hospital managed to treat this very rare case of a 2-day-old baby with very modern methods. “This is the first medical college and hospital in Vidarbha, which handled such a case well and saved the baby’s life. In the future too, the state-of-the-art Cardiology and Cathlab department of the hospital will be a boon for the needy patients”, said Dr. Kajal Mitra (Dean of NKP Salve Medical College and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital). He congratulated the team of doctors.
