Mortal remains of Yug, the 8-year old son of noted dentist Dr Mukesh Chandak who was kidnapped and murdered, were consigned to flames at Gangabai Ghat on Wednesday amid tight police security. A sea of people from all walks of life attended the funeral and bid a tearful adieu to the kid. The roads from where the funeral procession of Yug passed were flooded with mourners. Several top leaders of political parties also attended the last rites of Yug.
Yug Chandak was kidnapped and murdered by Rajesh Dhivre and his accomplice Arvind Singh on Monday (Sept 1). Body of Yug, with face crushed by stones, was recovered from a nallah at village Babulkheda near Nagpur on Tuesday night. Rajesh Dhivre, a former employee of Dr Mukesh Chandak, and Arvind Singh were arrested on Tuesday itself.
Meanwhile, Lakadganj police on Wednesday (Sept 3) produced both the accused in the Court No. 4 of Judge Sharma who remanded Dhivre and Singh to police custody till September 15 (13 days).
The atmosphere in Gangabai Ghat turned poignant body of Yug was consigned to flames with tears rolling down the cheeks from eyes of hundreds of mourners who attended the last rites. Earlier, body of Yug was handed over to his near and dear ones after the post-mortem at Mayo Hospital. Later, the body was taken to Chhapru Nagar residence of Chandaks for last ‘Darshan.’ Here also a flood of people thronged with teary eyes and heavy hearts. Only one question was crowding the minds of people: What was the fault of this innocent kid? Among those who visited the residence of Yug to pay their last respects were MLA Krishna Khopde, Vikas Thakre, Atul Kotecha, Balasaheb Meshram, Panju Totwani and other bigwigs from political and other fields.
Police threw a tight security at the residence of Chandaks, nearby areas and on the roads leading to Gangabai Ghat for maintaining law and order and avert any untoward incident as rage was running high among common people over the macabre incident.
On Wednesday, all shops in Lakadganj, Itwari, Sarafa Bazaar, Indora, Jaripatka and at other several places were closed as mark of respect to Yug and almost all shopkeepers attended his funeral.
The kidnapping and murder of Yug Chandak brought the memories of Kush Kataria afresh. Kush, 8-year old son of industrialist Raju Kataria, too was kidnapped and murdered by his neighbor Ayush Pugalia for ransom of Rs 2 crore. The horrendous incident has rattled every soul in the city to the core. People had started thinking that such incident would not be repeated in Nagpur but the kidnapping and murder of Yug Chandak on the same line has proved them wrong.
