Nagpur: The State Election Commission (SEC), on the occasion of completion of 25 years to 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendment Act, had organised an essay contest. The contest received an overwhelming response in Nagpur Division. The three best entries have been sent to SEC for final contest.
In all five subjects were selected for the said essay contest. The subjects include ‘Money role in elections’, “Measures to curb distribution of liquor and freebies during elections,’ ‘Expectations from political parties on fielding candidates,’ ‘Steps for increasing voting percentage in Municipal Corporation elections,’ and ‘Use of new technology in elections and role of media’ (for example paid news, paid social comments, advertisements etc). A total of 68 entries were received from Nagpur Division. Out of these 68 entries, the three best entries were selected and sent to SEC for final contest.
The three winners are Dr Bhalchandra Deshmukh (First), Pusad, District Yavatmal, Dr Bhaskar Madankar (Second), Dhanora, District Gadchiroli, and Shagufta Shakeel Ahmed (Third), Nagpur. The judges for the contest were Dr Prakash Itankar (HoD, Pharmacy, RTMNU), Shobha Shelke (Retired Headmistress, Hadas High School), Dr Pramod Munghate (Associate Professor, Marathi Department, RTMNU), and Rashmi Madankar (Writer, Nagpur).
