The Railways have slightly eased the rule of compulsorily keeping identity cards for the passengers traveling in second class. As per the new amendment, the second class passengers can now also produce attested copies of photo-pasted ration cards or bank pass books.
The central railway officials informed in Nagpur that these new identity proofs must be duly attested by Gazetted Officers.
The Railway Board has recently made the compulsion of carrying identity cards for the passengers traveling all classes.
The list of identity cards included pan card, aadhar card, driving licence and voting card.
At that time it came to the knowledge of rule makers that most of the passengers belonging to below poverty line do not have any of these documents. In order to ease traveling for these people, the decision to include ration cards and bank pass books in the list of authorized identity proofs has been taken. The relaxation has been accorded across second class passengers only.
Passengers traveling other classes would have to show pan card, aadhar card, driving licence, passport and voting card in original.
