Nagpur: In a sigh of relief to State Government as well as other top organisations, the farmers undertaking ‘fast unto death’ have called off the agitation on Day 13. Around 400 farmers of Selu Tehsil in Wardha District were fighting since past two years for receiving dues for theior crops. Five of the farmers had resorted to sit-in agitation at Sanvidhan Square (RBI Square) to press for their demands.
The agitation was called of following a high-level meeting at Mumbai between State Government functionaries and a delegation of protesting farmers was held on Thursday. The government in principle accepted the demands of the farmers.
The Resident Deputy Collector of Wardha District Vaibhav Navadkar on Friday met the agitating farmers in the city and apprised them about the details of Mumbai meeting. Navadkar also distributed the copies of minutes of the meeting to the farmers. Thereafter, the farmers took fruit juice to mark end of the agitation.
