Nagpur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday said that society needs to be more benevolent for the poor in their surroundings, as each and everything cannot be left at the door steps of Government and administration.
“In any hospital, it’s not only the medical treatment that has to be provided, there are allied services that are needed to be taken care of. And Deendayal Thali is one such effort and its members are doing an excellent job,” said Dr Bhagwat as he lauded the people who have taken the initiative of serving the needs of patients and their relatives who are often at loss in new places.
Speaking at the fifth foundation day function of Deendayal Thali, an initiative of Shree Siddhivinayak Seva Trust, at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday, Dr Bhagwat further said, “It is a service to the mankind and by serving others we purify our souls – be it by offering money, time, or labour” he stated further.
The occasion was Kritagyata (Gratitude) function organised by Trust to mark the fifth foundation year of starting the initiative, Deendayal Thali. Also present on the occasion were Sandip Joshi, President, Shree Siddhivinayak Seva Trust; Dr Raj Gajhbiye, Dean, GMCH; Dr Vipin Itankar, Collector, Radhakrishnan B, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, Nagpur Municipal Corporation; MLA Mohan Mate; and Dr Pramod Giri, noted Neurosurgeon.
Joshi, in his inaugural address, narrated the idea behind starting the concept of Deendayal Thali. He thanked all the well-wishers for their patronage and elaborated on other initiatives of the Shree Siddhivinayak Seva Trust. The Trust now also runs SOBAT — an organisation that serves as guardians for 300 families who lost bread winners during COVID19 pandemic.
A rehabilitation centre for Divyangs is also on cards at GMCH premises that will be run by the Trust, he added. MLA Mohan Mate and Dr Raj Gajbhiye congratulated Shree Siddhivinayak Seva Trust for their efforts and excellent work. Health Cards to the Divyangs were also distributed on the occasion. The programme was conducted by Renuka Deshkar while Parag Saraf proposed a vote of thanks.
Started in the year 2017, Deendayal Thali has served over16 lakh people till date. Over four lakh people benefited from it during the COVID-19 period alone. Deendayal Thali is made available to the patients and their relatives at Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur at a subsidised cost of Rs 10. Considering its success, the Deendayal Thali that was served during the day will now also be available during the evening.
